Allergies to Oak & Birch.....???

I just found out I have a SEVERE allergy to Oak & Birch trees... my hardwood floors are oak... could this be causing my symptom such as night cough & lots of colds???? I know the floors are treated, but I'm just not sure if you are very allergic would they still bother you??? -Thanks!!!

It's more likely that you are allergic to the pollen that these trees produce during their reproductive cycle, than to the actual wood, itself.

Wood allergies are extremely rare, and even when present, only manifest themselves when you are inhaling actual dust from the wood, such as in a wood shop or while sanding the product directly.

It's unlikely that your floors are causing your cough, and colds. Oak doesn't really outgas anything. Vinyls, plastics, carpets, etc, on the other hand, _do_ outgas, and some people have bad reactions to them.

Have you checked for mold in the house? That is a really high-level trigger for a lot of people's allergys, and the spores get everywhere.
