American Bulldogs and Allergies?

Does anyone else's AB have severe allergies? Mine
(all white) has been scratching like crazy the past few months. To the point he is making himself bleed. I've tried Benedryl and topical sprays but nothing. He scratches throughout the night and keeps us up because we have to stop him. i have an appointment with a doggy dermatologist next week but was hoping there was a quick fix until then.

I've been feeding him Iams since he was a puppy. First the puppy one, now the large breed adult one.

I have to agree with Love is...Iams is not the best quality food out there and the most common allergy in ABDs is to food. I started my American Bulldogs on the Wolf King as well. My female did fine, however my male was constantly scratching and I had difficulty keeping his stool solid. I made the switch several months ago to Taste of the Wild, a grain free choice. I prefer the High Prairie formula which contains Bison & Venison, but there are other options as well. All of my dogs are doing very well on this food, their energy level is higher, their coats look great, and yard scooping has become a breeze. LOL Not to mention at $30.00 for a 30 lb bag keeps it within my budget.

There are several high quality foods out there. Do some research to see how they compare and make the best choice for your dog.

Yes!! My boy here had allergies for a long time until I changed his food. What are you feeding this dog? I had him on Solid Gold Wolf King which has fish in it and I learned that he was allergic to it which is why he was miserable.

Try switching his food to see if that's the reason, just do it gradually....you don't want him to get an upset stomach.

Let me know what you are feeding him if you can, I would love to try to help more. American Bulldogs have a special place in my heart and it's hard to hear of one suffering with allergies. By the way, mine is white too, be careful with him in the sun, they can burn easily...put sunblock on him!!

Ok, Iams really isn't a good quality food. Your dog needs to be on a better, more nutricious food like Canidae. This is what I feed my boys...it has Chicken and Rice and all natural ingredients in it....nothing to make him itch. PLEASE consider switching his food. If you can't find Canidae...there is also Solid Gold ( just not Wolf King....because of the fish )...there is also Innova EVO...which is excellent. I really and truely believe your dogs suffering is due to his food.
