Can allergies make your skin itch?

This might sound like a stupid question- but seriously, I don't know much about allergies! I live in Missouri- which is super humid and whatnot in the summertime. My neck, my chest, and parts of my stomach itch really bad a lot of the time- i've seen a doctor and they gave me some steroid medicine to heal the hives, but its just overal dry and itchy! So, do you think it could be allergies? Ive never had them before...but maybe now I do?

Also...Ive changed laundry detergents to Tide Free...which is supposed to be free of all fragrences. But, if I do have allergies....what's the best medicine to get for it?

Allergies can make your skin itch, and steroid creams are a reasonable treatment for this. I would definitely give the cream a chance to work. Another possibility, especially since you describe the weather as being warm and very humid, might be a yeast infection, or even a combination of both. Several times a day, not right after applying the steroid cream, would apply either some talcum powder or some corn starch to the affected areas, which should help keep the areas dry, and let the areas heal. If that doesn't work, would go back to your doctor.

yes, allergies can make you skin itch, they make your body shut down in lots of different ways, one of which is skin irritation or itching. Try to think of when the itching started, and weather you have recently started using something new on your skin/clothes (e.g. spray, fabric softener, creams), or increased the useage of something. Alternitavely you may have developed an allergy to something you are already using.

Also you need to bear in mind that food allergies can cause skin irritation so think about what seemsto make you better/worse.
