Dogs skin allergies and dry skin?

This year has been the worst for one of my dogs. She looks like she has mange - (she don't) So I have been reading and came across something that said Biotin would help out a lot. I am one that hates spending 20 more dollars on something that is labeled for a dog yet is the same as the human stuff. So if it is chemically the same I am buying the cheaper.

anyhow my question is the human Biotin what dosage would you give a 150lb dog? http://www.healthy-america.com/Scripts/p...

Done - she is eating raw

Done - tyroid clear.

~Have you tried changing foods.?

If you are feeding her raw, is she also getting fatty acids in her diet? Raw feeding includes whole carcass, including the insides of the prey, so the canine gets full vitamin and mineral dosage. Most raw feeders just feed the "meat", which is not balanced. I would check with a canine nutritionist to see if the raw diet is properly balanced with protein, fats, carbs, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids.

99% likely this is a food allergy. Get her food that does not contain grains and does not contain words like by-products. Other top allergies are beef (thanks to the antibiotics etc they feed the animals).

A high end diet (not the crap from the vets) with actual words that are foods on the label not chemicals can turn around a coat and behaviour in a very short time.

Switch any diet slowly so you dont' upset the dogs tummy.

Honestly...spending money on suppliments is going to cost you more than $20 on something labeled for a dog. Dont be cheap about it.Go get a quality dog food and it will be cheaper. Say she gets better so you stop getting biotin...she gets the skin problem again...back to round one it is. change dog food trust me

Ok...I just read that your dog is on a raw diet. How do you have her on a raw diet if you dont spent over 20 dollars or more on something labeled for dogs? Raw feeding isn't cheap. you dont make sense...what are you considering raw diet?

Try Canidae food it is wonderful for dogs with allergies to certain foods. My dog was like yours and we tried all different foods and canidae was the best she no longer has sores and she is not scratching anymore. look it up on canidae.com it is all natural and hypoallergenic

My aunts dog had a similiar problem. There is a shampoo that is baking soda and aloe vera based. It is about 8 dollars and can be purchased at PetSmart or Petco. Cleared up his issue, made him smell nice too. Look for a green bottle.

Umm allergies are usually automatically directed to wheat in the food. Anything w.o wheat should be fine =]

well it says 1/3 for a 50lb so i guess times it by 3 and it'll be a whole dosage

do you know what she is allergic to? also, have you had her tested for thyroid problem?

Hello.. I don't see why you could not use the human variety. I feed my dogs raw also and one of them suffers from seasonal allergies. I was spending allot of money for some pills from the vet I told him I just can not keep this up so he told me to use children's benadryl. It worked I also started them all on BRAVO wild Alaskan Salmon oil..His skin has improved greatly..I would talk with your vet about the dosage to give to your dog. There are allot of meds that are the same for people as they are for dogs the dosage amount is just different..I would talk with your vet over this and let him know what you found out..
