Cat/Pollen Allergies?

I have always been allergic to pollen, so when the season started I took a no name 24hour allergy medication. So when I started apartment sitting for my brother who has a cat, I thought I would be ok. But last night my allergies started acting up only 12 hours after I had taken the medication(I just moved in last night). I didn't want to mess up my schedual so I waited until this morning to take my pill. Although it is helping, my nose is still a bit itchy, and im not completly comfortable. Is there a brand of medecine that won't wear out, and that will really help me?

Yeah, I don't have a month to build up immunity. So I'll go with the meds!

I'm allergic to cat and dog dander and practically everything else. From my experience the best over the counter medication is Clairtin D 24 hour. Zrytec works okay but it tends to make me drowsy. Everyone is different so what may work for me may not work for you. You may have to try different medications before you find the one that works best for you. I have found Allegra to be the best prescription medication. There is really nothing that will work 100% if you have cat allergies so I would recommend staying away from the cat as much as possible. Good luck!!

You might find that some medications work better for you than others. I would suggest trying a different one. Do not just look at brand--make sure the active ingredients are different. If you do switch to another medication and it does not last the whole 24 hours, you might want to try switching to a 12 hour dosage.

You do not mention if you are just taking an antihistamine or if you are taking one that is an antihistamine and decongestant together. If you are taking one that is a combination, maybe just the antihistamine would be more helpful.

Good luck!

I have severe indoor/outdoor allergies. Zyrtec-D is the way to go. I have tried every allergy medicine out there and that is the one that helps me. I am very allergic to cats/pollen and this works great. You can get it over the counter...you do not need to go to the doctor.

Try clariyntin or Zyrtec. Be careful some of them make people sleepy ask the chemist.

what i will add you as a friend

celestamine.

What is it with Local Honey? Be specific? I doubt that has any cure of effect than Zyrtec and zantac.

Pollen and pet dander are a few irritants that can be cured by taking a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day. This will help your body develop immunities naturally. Be really careful what meds you take. Antihistamines and decongestants will dry out your body and cause sinus, eye and possible kidney problems along with other damage to your stomach and/or digestive system. Symptoms may appear gradually but damage could be hidden and you may not be able to fix the problems by the time you can see them. Did you know that the leading cause of death in the elderly is kidney failure due to too much medication over time? Like all herbal remedies, it will take a month or so to become effective but the longer you take local honey, the healthier your body will become.
