Allergies to dogs :(?

i love dogs, i truly do. I have since i was really little, but because me and my mom both have dog allergies, we could nvr get one. finally, i have almost convinced my mom to get on for a joint christmas && birthday gift. but , i dont no what dogs are best for people with dog allergies. I understand that the hairless dogs are the BEST but, i dont find them cute, and i am not intrested in hairles dogs, such as Chinese Crested. is there any dogs that would be best for me?

first of all chinese crested came from africa so they are really the African crested. second my dad has allergies to dogs but we are getting one this july. well here is a list of a couple of them :[remember people have different allergie needs so some might be fine with you but not your mom]
1.miniature schnauzer
2.poodle
3. shih tzu
4.bichon frise
5.maltese
6.yorkie
7. alot more but I can't remember

You are better off going to see a breeder and test puppies (don't take any med before though) ; For some reason, I am not allergic to chi nor old english bulldog, but I am to pugs, poodle, rotts, etc. It's not only the type of coat, but the ''type'' of saliva. And as long as my sister is concerned, she is allergic to the chis but not to pugs... Go, try a couple because we could suggest you many type of dogs and it may or may not work out for you (and make sure you take the dog when it's young so that your body get used to the saliva as well and everything should be all right). You should do research on breeds that shed less than others. I have a future mother-in-law that is allergic to dogs, so when my fiancee visits her mom, the dog is only allowed on tile areas and if the dog is in the living room, it must be laying on a blanket.

In this manner, the dog hair is easy to clean up. So far, it has worked very well (the few times that my fiancee stays at her parents house).

Maybe a poodle?

If you know someone who has a poodle, or your shelter has one, ask if you can spend some time with it to see if it sets you off or anything.

I would be cautious about going in, maybe see if you can have the dog brought to you (ask a breeder--a poodle breeder would be GREAT because they wouldnt usually have any other breeds around) because others might set you off.

any kind of dog that does not shed is good for allergic people. just go onto google and type in hypoallergenic dogs and you will find a huge list! my friend has a labradoodle, lab poodle mix and he's awesome, no shedding and my allergic mom has no problems when she is around him. good luck, dogs are great!!

Portuguese Water Dogs are good for people with allergies... also Zyrtec has helped me a lot with allergies!
