Cat allergies???? PLEASE HELP!?

my mom is allergic to cats, and i think i am a bit too. the problem is, all my family absolutely loves cats. there is this one litter of kittens that i really want one of, but as i said, there is an allergy problem. my friend mentioned some sort of spray u can put on cats??? WE WILL NOT TAKE MEDICEN (WELL, WE WILL DO CAT MEDICENE, BUT NOT HUMAN). how do i stop it??? is there a way???

My sister-in-law was able to get her kids a kitty without
an all out sinus attack by purchasing wipes to clean the kitty
once a week. It avoided them having to bathe him and
it's going on two years with no problems. Good luck.

I recommend Zyrtec

Controlled and uncontrolled clinical trials conducted in the United States and Canada included more than 6000 patients aged 12 years and older, with more than 3900 receiving ZYRTEC at doses of 5 to 20 mg per day. The duration of treatment ranged from 1 week to 6 months, with a mean exposure of 30 days.

Most adverse reactions reported during therapy with ZYRTEC were mild or moderate. In placebo-controlled trials, the incidence of discontinuations due to adverse reactions in patients receiving ZYRTEC 5 or 10 mg was not significantly different from placebo (2.9% vs. 2.4%, respectively).

The most common adverse reaction in patients aged 12 years and older that occurred more frequently on ZYRTEC than placebo was somnolence. The incidence of somnolence associated with ZYRTEC was dose related, 6% in placebo, 11% at 5 mg and 14% at 10 mg. Discontinuations due to somnolence for ZYRTEC were uncommon (1.0% on ZYRTEC vs. 0.6% on placebo). Fatigue and dry mouth also appeared to be treatment-related adverse reactions. There were no differences by age, race, gender or by body weight with regard to the incidence of adverse reactions.

Table 1 lists adverse experiences in patients aged 12 years and older which were reported for ZYRTEC 5 and 10 mg in controlled clinical trials in the United States and that were more common with ZYRTEC than placebo.

Will you do allergy shots at all? This is where they inject you with a serum made from cat dander. I am horribly allergic to cats, and this has been the number 1 thing that has helped me the most. If this is not something you are able to do, then here are "the rules":

Do not allow the cat in the bedrooms (THIS IN #1!)
Wash your hands after handling your cat and before you touch your face - this will help keep the dander out of your mouth & nose
Keep the furniture vacuumed
Wash the cat regularly
If you can remove your carpet - do it - if not, vacuum daily
Wash curtains regularly

My aunt has cats and these rules have helped me enjoy them whenever I visit her home (I love her cats!). Good luck!

The biggest issue with allergies to cats is the dander...you can skip the whole chemical thing by keeping the house vacuumed really well, and making sure that the cat or cats are bathed regularly.

If you start them young, they won't be crazy about bath time, but they will accept it without too much aggression.

There is a product called Allerpet. Check out the website and read all about it.
http://www.allerpet.com/
It comes in Allerpet-C for cats, D for dogs and B for birds. For cats you wet a sponge and rub the cat down once a week. I used to towel our cat down after to remove most of the dampness. You do not have to bathe them. Even if they wash themselves afterward it will not take away the benefits. It is a hair and skin conditoner. Checked with my vet for safety. I used it years ago on our cat when my son tested so allergic to cats that his doctor told us we had to get rid of our 20 lb. cat. After the first time I used it he never had a problem again. There are other similar products in pet supply stores. But that is the one we used. I don't understand why doctors don't know about this product. Its always worth a try instead of losing a beloved pet or not being able to have one.

Someone else told me they just rinsed their cat once a week in bath temperature distilled water and that removed the allergens. But I think the Allerpet-C is a lot less traumatic for the cat. Anyway good luck

I have allergies and have 2 cats. the product to put on the cats is called allerpet-c. I have never seen it in a store but I order it on the internet from an allergy website. I put it on the cats once a week and it helps alot

first you need to determine what you are allergic to from the cat most people its dander and some are senstive to the albumin in their urnine
then you will know if vaccuming and bathing will help or not

would you try a hairless cat? a cover for your nose or mouth or something to cover your face might work
