Peanut allergy sufferers - how does it affect your life?

How far do you go to avoid foods that may contain traces of nuts? What do you stay away from? What other measures do you take to stay safe? Do you avoid drinking alcohol in case you eat something you shouldn't without thinking or realising? How does it affect your life?

hi
my brother has anaphylaxis to nuts...
he just says 'no' if he isnt sure, he's 11 so it affects him at school if someone brings a peanut butter sandwich, and he doesnt like going on camps coz he doesnt know what the food will be like, he doesnt like trying new foods, and sticks to what he knows is safe. He only eats cherry ripes, cadbury dairy milk and milky way bars (aussie), but no others. as for takeaway he eats sushi, fried rice and a few other simple chinese dishes. We have his epi-pen where ever we go. Iv also taken a course so i know how to effectively use an epipen....
hope it helps

There is no question that food allergies especially severe and life threatening ones, disrupt our lives, and cause inconveniences. However there are ways of coping and dealing to try and maintain as much normalcy as possible.Being able to accept and deal with being different is a challenge, but you shouldn't let it stop you from enjoying life! Eating out at restaurants and socializing are the biggest areas of sacrafice for allergic people,no matter how careful you are to choose the right items on the menu, the fear of cross contamination is always a major issue! So eating out is very risky and some people avoid it if they have very severe peanut allergies.Being able to plan ahead and pack your own meals, will ease stress and worry, and allow you to focus on whats most important, people who care like friends and family!

I have a friend who is severely allergic to nuts but she really doesn't notice it much. she just makes sure she carries her epipen and all of us(her friends) know how to use it and what to do if she does eat nuts so she probably feels pretty safe. as for food she can't eat muesli bars that's pretty much it that I know of. she still eats takeaway food except one time there was nuts in it and she had an attack and a few days later she went back and told them off because she had asked if it has nuts and they had said it definately didn't. she is quite careful if she is offered food from other people and has to ask whats in it and stuff but she's pretty chilled. and she doesn't drink anyway so it doesn't matter :)
