Allergies and yawning?

Has anyone heard of having an allergic reaction when you eyes get red and swollen, then start to excessively yawn and become very tired?

Yes - it has happened to me, and to others in my family - and it can be serious. It sounds like you are having an allergy attack that not only is bothering your eyes, but could be causing swelling in your lungs (bronchial tubes) - and cutting off your air flow. In short - you are not getting enough oxygen, which is why you feel so sleepy. I'm not a medical professional, but I can tell you what has helped me when this happens. Claritin and Zyrtec are both good over-the-counter allergy medicines. Also you can take 3000 MG's of Vitamin C - it's a great natural antihistamine, plus strengthens your immune system. That stuff will help with the allergies, but you also need to get the swelling down in your bronchial tubes - for that you could take Aleve, which is a good anti-inflammatory, over-the-counter medicine. Believe it or not, one of the simplest and fastest ways to open your lungs up is to drink one or two strong cups of coffee down as fast as you can - because caffeine is an effective natural anti-inflammatory ingredient. (Don't do that if you have high blood pressure, though !!) And the best thing you should do is go to a good Allergist - one that is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology - ASAP !! They can test you to find out exactly what it is you are allergic to - and prescribe the most effective treatment tailor-made for you. You need to get on top of this right away - because it can cause you to fall asleep anytime with no warning - even when you are driving (I know from personal experience!) So be very careful.
Hope that helps - and I hope you feel better real soon!

Your body is reacting to something in your environment.
Please consider the results from "NASA's Clean Air Plant Study" as a possible solution to your problem.

"Common indoor plants may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor air pollution. Those plants in your office or home are not only decorative, but NASA scientists are finding them to be surprisingly useful in absorbing potentially harmful gases and cleaning the air inside modern buildings."

"NASA research has consistently shown that living, green and flowering plants can remove several toxic chemicals from the air in building interiors. You can use plants in your home or office to improve the quality of the air to make it a more pleasant place to live and work - where people feel better, perform better, any enjoy life more."

The second part of the problem might be the lack of oxygen which only plants can provide. Your boby automaticly shuts down if there is a lack of oxygen. By yawning, your body is trying to get more oxygen into your body, it it can't get enough oxygen, then you will be tired or sleepy.

Yes, this is a common side effect ... I take a prescription med that does this to me.
