Milk allergy in my 17th month old baby boy?

I spoke to my doctor about worries I have with my child, and he told me to switch him over to a soy or lactose free milk. What is the difference between lactose free milk and normal milk, wont he still be allergic to what? Thanks

Where can I buy products that are lactose free and what is lactose is most of the time? This is my first child and I just want to keep him safe and healthy. What are the products I should avoid and what are the ones that I should use or try? He eats everything we eat.

MY oldest daughter caylee, had that problem to and i chose to use lactose free and she is fine and ot worked but now she is 3 and is allowed to drink regular milk.

He may be alrgic to icecream too than, my daughter was.

but i think it will go away when hes older alot of babies are lactose intolerant but then as the get older it goes away.

good luck

Lactose does not cause the allergy if they are allergic to milk!!! DONT listen to those people unless they have a child that is allergic to milk and NOT lactose intolerant! .. My daughter drinks Silk Soy Vanilla milk, and this solves her milk allergy, she can eat products with milk if its a cooked milk because this breaks down the protein that makes the person allergic to milk. She does not have a severe allergy. The signs of my daughter's milk allergy are red blocthy spots on her face. You should definatly look up the difference between lactose-intolerant and milk allergy to see what signs your child shows.

If it's an actual allergy, in which he stops breathing, lactose free milk is just as deadly. If it's an intolerance, lactose free milk has added enzymes that basically eat the sugars that cause intolerance, so that the milk is safer for those people.

Soy milk has no cows milk in it, so that's safer for someone who is actually allergic.

My son was severely lactose intolerant as a baby. He is 10 years old now, but when he was a baby he would writhe in pain, get constipated or diarrhea and a high fever. He would lose all color in his body and his skin would turn grayish color if he had either regular milk or too much lactose free milk. I never gave him soy because I'm lactose intolerant too, and soy leaves a nasty after taste. Yuck! Soy has no cow's milk in it at all. It's all made from soy. Lactose free is cow's milk processed with enzymes and such to make it easier to digest. My son is OK on lactose free now, but in moderation. Maybe 1 glass a day or with some cereal. There are other ways to get your son the additional calcium. That may be a better option for you.

when i was a child and had milk allergies they put me on goats milk because the milk sugars(lactose) are not present in goats milk.you can buy goats milk at the wal-mart in the dairy section,it comes in the quarts and is expensive. drink some your self and then decide if your child will like it. i still drink it. don't upset anything. yummy

we ran into the same problem. we first switched to enfamil gentlease which is a mix of regular and lactose free. seemed to help for a while. now we mix it 50/50 with similac soy. no more gas or allergies.

No lactose is what causes milk allergies, this is only in normal milk, not rice or soy milk.

my cousin had this and he had to use soy milk

Lactose is a sugar that is unique to milk, and a majority of people over 12 are lactose intolerant, but not allergic. Milk allergies are not necessarily caused by Lactose. Your son could be allergic to Lactose, casein, or any other protein found in milk. Someone who can't tolerate lactose, but isn't allergic can drink lactose-free milk, but someone who is allergic to milk generally can't. It really depends on the kid and the nature of the allergy. Soy milk is a good alternative, but be wary for signs of a soy allergy as well (they sometimes go hand in hand). Also, boys that drink a lot of soy milk have higher levels of estrogen. My brother is allergic to dairy and he drinks rice milk. I think its gross, but kids who don't know anything different like it. And they make rice milk ice cream and stuff too. (and don't let your doctor convince you that kids with dairy allergics are always calcium deficient....with proper diet they aren't.)
If you are interested in an allergy treatment, try NAET (search is on the web since it is kinda complicated) BTW, most conventional doctors don't know anything about allergies or NAET. consult an allergist/NAET specialist
