My pet rat sneezes alot, i think it allergies, what do you think.? |
I looked up common things, and i'm pretty sure its not resp. infection. but any ideas will help. How long have you had the rat? Is this a lone rat? Are your other rats sneezing too? What type of bedding are you using? What type of diet do you feed? Yes, it can be allergies, and it can also be an outbreak of myco, requiring treatment with antibiotics from a qualified exotics veterinarian familiar with treating rats. Or it could be the bedding, stress, etc. Are you seeing any poryphin around the nose? If you want to know for sure, see a vet to get a competent diagnosis and treatment. Rats can even be treated for allergies. My rats sneeze whenever something tickles their noses. Aspen shavings is the best if you are using shavings. Rats can have allergies, same as humans and it is pollen season. My precious babies are having a difficult time being outdoors if the wind is up or the pollen count high. Since I have the same allergy, I keep them inside on those days and they don't sneeze as often. I wouldn't worry about your rat unless is had drainage coming out it's nose. It is probably allergies. I have one of my mice on my shoulder right now, and he just sneezed. Don't worry. It's probably no big deal. He just sneezed again. lol and again. Make sure your not using pine bedding because that will cause resp. problems (I have a guinea pig and they told me aspen is the best, however I am not sure if it is for a rat), make sure it is not to cold because that will give them runny noses. My late rat had the same problem with sneezing. |
