Can a dog be given loratadine for allergies and if so what is the dosage?

Can a dog be given loratadine for allergies and if so what is the dosage?

I think you'll have to ask your vet about that.

Good luck!

I don't know about loratadine, but my dog had severe itching and the vet gave my 20 lb. dog a prescription for 25 mg twice a day Diphenhydramine, which is the same as Benadryl or a generic version adult dosage single pill over the counter. It didn't help her much. She was scratching all night and bumping furniture by day.

I switched her dog food to Wellness brand, initially just venison and potato variety. I also gave her fish oil concentrate, (any brand at most drug or grocery stores) about 500 mg daily until her coat improved (and she started smelling like fish).

Now that she's better I give her Wellness Super5 mix with fish and potato for more variety, and give her fish oil concentrate about once a week. Her coat is beautiful and full and she seldom scratches. Of course you also need to give your dog Frontline or similar flea remedy. Good luck!

Your not supposed to give it to children, your Dr has to know of all your allergies & it can also do harm to liver & kidneys. What do you think?? I think you should make a phone call to your Vet. also I thought is was a prescription

Benadril works best for their alergies. Buy the regular kind, and give them one pill when you see symtoms. It helped my lab soo much! and she always thought it was a treat cause we put it in cheese.

actually dotn know about loratidien but you can give benedryl.... the dosage depends on the dogs weight....

Do not give your dog any medications without contacting your vet!!!

Hello,

I would not give my dog anything with meds without asking my vet first. Better safe than sorry.

Maybe but I would check with your vet first. Then the dosage would depend on weight.

my vet ok'd benadryl for my dogs
