If you have Wheat Allergies can you eat recipes with Bicarbonate of Soda in them?

baking a cake for a friend who's got Wheat allergies x

...really don't want to kill her & I've put bicarbonate of soda in so im worried she won't be able to eat it!

The main thing to do is to check the ingredients. Bicarb should be fine, but look at the packet.

Sadly most baking powders are not wheat-free, although some are - again, it's a matter of reading the ingredients.

Since wheat and gluten are common allergens, they should be listed in the "Allergy information" section.

Yep, bicarb is ok, but why bother making a cake when there are plenty of outlets you can purchase cakes from, which are specifically gluten free and know that your safe giving it to her. It's not only wheat, it's also barley, rye and oats for many people with coelliac disease, like me.

Bi carb is fine and will not cause any problems - it does not contain any wheat
