What animals apart froms cats and dogs are good for people with allergies??

Hello; first off, I am sorry to hear and I sympathize about your allergies. I have several animal related allergies myself, and my cousin does as well so I know how miserable it can be. :(

Have you considered a lizard of some kind? They are hypo-allergenic and honestly make great pets. As far as individual species go; I would highly recommend a Northern Blue Tongued Skink.

They are often referred to as the 'Cadillacs of the lizard world', and are very intelligent, docile, interesting, hardy as long as their care needs are met, can be housed in a 40-60 gallon tank, are almost dog-like pets, and can even be hand-fed by their owners because of how gentle they are. They are omnivores and eat a mixture of greens, meats (chicken, high-quality cat food, snails, sill/wax/butter worms, etc), and fruit. They are a tad on the expensive side, but their personalities more than make up for it. I'm a bit biased, but in my opinion you really can't ask for a better pet lizard. :)

Here is an incredibly detailed care sheet that is a wonderful resource on Blue-tongue Skink general information, care, needs, and maintenance:

Another great option that is medium sized, personable, intelligent, and very sweet tempered would be the Bearded Dragon. Here is a care sheet for them; as well. :)

If you would prefer something smaller, cheaper, and lower upkeep; I would recommend a Leopard Gecko, a Crested Gecko, a Viper Gecko, a Gargoyle Gecko, or an African Fat-tailed Gecko. All are nocturnal so they don't need UV lighting, low maintenance, docile, interesting looking, hardy, fine with gentle, patient, confident handling, and the African Fat-tails, Vipers and the Leopards in particular make great starter lizards. :)

Here are care sheets for all of the Gecko species I just named:

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject or would like more suggestions on good, hypoallergenic animals; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :)

Good luck!

I have horrible allergies and am allergic to most dogs and cats. But don't rule out all of them because of your allergy. there are certain ones that usually are okay for people with allergies. Fish, snakes, lizards and turtles are nice, but cats and dogs are definitely more lovable pets. Research online. I've heard that poodles, bichon frise, cockapoos, and other non-shedding and dander-free dogs are good. Check out this website for more information:

well there is a speacial kind of dog called a Labradoodle... sounds weird but its a cross between a labrador and a poodle. They dont mault and they dont smell and dont effect allergies! my friend has one called Wally. research it if you dont belive me!! glad i could help xxxx

You will need to look beyond the normal pets and go for something more exotic. If you are allergic to dogs and cats you might want to get a lizard or snake.Ask at your local pet store if they have pets for people with allergies.

it depends what type of allergy you have, but for most fur dust or dander allergies i would suggest some kind of lizard, or fish or frog. Hope this helped.

turtles, fish, newts, lizards
