Severely allergic to cats and rabbits. Any known drugs or surgeries to diminish my allergies?

Are there any known drugs or procedures that could alleviate the symptoms of my allergies?

Allergy shots can help. I'm getting them to treat my allergies to cats, pollen, dustmites, and other stuff.

It's a long, slow process, since you have to build up to the maintainence dose and may have to be on them long term. I also haven't ever heard the whole being set back 5 doses if you react, since I have a bad reaction to my dustmite shot every week. All that has been done is the dose is being edged up by half instead of a full amount and I have to take benadryl and zyrtec before I get the shots, and prednisone if my arm blows up like a balloon.

You could opt for allergy shots. It takes a long time, though, and costs a lot of money. Also, each time you have a reaction (and it happens more often than you might think!) you get set back five doses.

Zyrtec is good, as is any other allergy medication. When being constantly taken, they work well, but if you only take them occasionally they're not very effective. For severe allergies, it's best to just avoid what you're allergic to...although if you're like me, a little allergy won't keep you away from animals.

I suggest you visit your allergist to discuss other alternative options to your allergies, I'm sure there are more ways to help them that I'm just not aware of.

My dad had to take benedryl all the time because he was allergic to cats and we had one. You could try benedryl, but your doctor might have something stronger for you since your allergy is severe.
