I seem to have a sinus or some form of allergy problem all year long, my throat feels like its closing up?

my ear sometimes feels like its clogged and i have pressure around the eyes...

You probably have multiple pereniall allergies - that means you're allergic to things like dust that are present all year round, as well as allergic to pollen and stuff. You're also probably sensitive to icky things like dust mites and disintegrating bugs and bug feces. Disgusting, I know.

Step 1: See your doctor, and ask about eye and nose antihistimines as well as something like Clarinex or Allegra. If you're just going over the counter, try Alaway eye drops and Nasalcrom for intranasal antihistamine. For over the counter antihistamines, you have to make sure you read the label and pick something that isn't short-term. I think Nasalcrom is your only choice for OTC nasal antihistamine but there are some other eye drop brand names you can look for but Alaway is probably the least expensive. It would be best to get something from your doctor if you can, just to get your allergies under control, and then switch to over the counter medicines after a year or so.

Step 2: You must clean your living space. Vacuum everywhere, including under the bed, using a vacuum with a HEPA filter. Don't leave dirty clothes lying around in your bedroom. Get an air cleaner (the Sears HEPA Air Cleaners are wonderful and not too expensive). Change your sheets and pillowcases at least once a week and get pillowcase enclosures to keep the dust mites away from you. Heck, you might want to get an enclosure for your mattress too. When you clean the bathroom or do anything with powerful sprays, wear a face mask. No joke. Use your air conditioner as much as possible in spring and fall, but you have to clean the filter every few days (with a face mask on). You need to stay as far away from pollen and dust as you can, especially just after you wake up and while you sleep. I personally have a separate air cleaner in my bedroom and sleep with the door closed.

Step 3: Make sure you aren't eating food you are allergic or intolerant too, because that will make it worse. If something makes you feel bad after eating it, try avoiding it for a week and see if that helps. Most people with allergies are also allergic/intolerant of milk and some kinds of meat. If you find something that makes you feel gross but that you like eating, like milk, try cutting down on it instead of eliminating it altogether, because even a small change is better than no change at all.

I hope that helps you feel better!

I have had the same problem my entire life....I am 48. You need to see a good Allergist and have testing done. I have been on allergy shots off and on throughout my life and I feel much better while having treatment. Usually 5 years of injections will immunize you from the things that you are allergic to, however you can develop new allergies and may have to be treated for them as well. I live in a large city and the pollution does not help. An allergist can prescribe several medications that may help you. I have found that after using a certain antihistamine for a time it becomes ineffective so sometimes you have to change. Benydryl always helps me but it cause drowsiness and is not a good alternative to some of the newer drugs that last for 24 hours. As of this posting, I have had a sinus headaches almost everyday for a month. I went back to my allergist and discovered that I am allergic to new things that I previously tested negative for. So I will begin injections again. Allergies can be very serious......YOU SAY THAT YOU FEEL THAT YOUR THROAT IS CLOSING UP.....THIS CAN BE A SYMPTOM OF ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK..WHICH CAN KILL YOU, if you are exposed to something that you are severly allergic to. My suggestion is to forget the over the counter stuff and go see a good allergist. If you live in the Houston, Tx area, I know a good one.

Try an over-the-counter allergy med such as Claritin (generic name is Loratadine), which is non-drowsy and in the 10 mg dose, lasts for 24 hours. If this doesn't help, look for other similar allergy meds and see if they are helpful. Then see your doctor if you still feel blah and the medicines aren't helping.
