When pregnant, can you be allergy tested? If you are having allergic reactions?

I mean like throat closing up allergic reactions. I know I am allergice Iodine but don't know how bad I am and things like that.. I also was told I might be allergic to demeral by my dr going through surgery so I want to check and make sure before going for epidurla if i do.

yes. they don't recommend starting an allergy shot when you are pregnant, but you can continue with one if you have always gotten them. i only get allergies when im pregnant. also, demerol is not given in an epidural. tell them you are allergic to it and they will not give it to you, demerol is a local pain shot, not the medicine that is given in an epidural. there is no way to test for the medicine in the epidural unless you get it. in fact, when i had back pain my last pregnancy, they wouldn't even give demerol as an option. i think because it is ibprofen based. if you are real concerned, keep a diary. that is the only way. as far as medicines, i wouldn't stress about it. there is no way to know for sure. i would stay with the choice of epidural though, because that is started and stopped through a small tube in your back. if you have a reaction, it is the only pain medicine that they can shut off then and there. demerol, morphine, etc. is all given in shot form or through the iv, you would have to wait until it has worn off if you have a reaction. that is why they like epidurals. they shut the medicine down when you are past a dialated 8, so that you can feel pressure to push. that is how quick it wears off. good luck!- by the way, does your throat feel closed only after you eat or use certain things? or does it come off and on? i have a feeling (from allergies) every day when i am pregnant, like i am being gagged, like i can't swallow all the way. like my throat is closing. my nose is constantly congested and i have headaches. it is safe to take benadryl and sudafed. that is what i use, and it helps tremendously.

You can probably be tested. But if you have a stuffy nose and think that it is allergies it's probably not. Stuffy nose is part of pregnancy.

I don't know about the allergy tests. I know that every time I'm pregnant my allergies change. It lasts the duration of the pregnancy and then goes back to normal.
