Should I change my dog's food brand again -- allergies? |
My dog has sensitive skin and she's always itchy. Lately she seems to be getting worse. She's been eating Natural Balance Potato & Duck (allergy formula) food for a few months now, but it doesn't seem to help her. Can anyone recommend a different brand? I feel so bad for my poor itchy pup. Thanks. I would try a diet that the protein is fish (instead of chicken, duck, etc.). My dogs food is fish and potato and it helped him tremendously. Natural balance makes a food that is fish, so you could try that. You don't necessarily need to switch the brand, just the type of food. The dog could be allergic to the current food, but if you're seeing that the dog is always itchy, no matter what she eats, it could be that she has environmental allergies. I'd have the vet perform allergy testing to try to determine exactly what the allergies are to. (Many times, the products we use to clean our homes are the culprit...if you don't already use them, I suggest using an all-natural brand of cleaning products that is safe for kids and pets...plain white vinegar is one product that can be used to clean so many different things, and is safe for our pets). if you want to feed her something without chicken/lamb/duck/beef in it, where the protein is from fish, try flint river ranch's trout and potato nuggets...my dog likes it alot, and it's another food that's good for allergies...unfortunately it's not sold in stores, so you do have to order it online...no shipping charge or tax, though which is really nice :) I had a golden retriever with the same problem always scratching i used purina sensitive skin and iams sensitve skin it seemed to help a little but dog food cant stop the itching it can only tone it down a notch. About trying a raw diet. Yes I you should change it. wellness has a new brand of food - try either duck and rice or now they have venison rice - it helped my friend's dog to get rid of all the problems. www.bluebuff.com How is his stool?
