Our cat had food allergies about a year ago and we switched to another brand as recommended by our vet...?

She has been superb until recently. She started scratching again in the same spots (between her eyes and ears) and I'm worried that she could have another allergy again. Is this possible or could this just be allergies from the outdoors. She's an indoor cat but recently with the nice weather we've had the windows up a lot. Any suggestions? We're planning on going for her yearly check up next weekend, but would like some ideas inbetween to make sure she's ok.

Thank you so much!

If you saved a bag from a previous purchase, compare the ingredient list to the current bag you have--cat food companies are NOTORIOUS for 'tweeking' their mixture, which can throw things off tremendously.

We had a cat who was extremely sensitive to Rosemary Extract (a natural preservative for chicken fats which took the place of the banned BHT). Royal Canin Siamese 38 had it go from the last line up to the third line from the top--meaning a lot more was put into the bag, since ingredients are listed in order of largest portion to the smallest. It had moved up 9 lines, and our cat went crazy with itching. We had to switch her to another food.

The cat food companies won't put on the bag that things are changed, which makes things like this harder to track down, but if you do have an old cat food bag from before, check to see what's changed. It could surprise you. I've had to keep an eye on the foods we get because I have one who's allergic to specific chemicals in the dry foods plus he's diabetic, so if they shift their vegetable ingredients it adds too many carbs for him, making his sugar levels spike badly.

Food allergies appear after prolonged use of one type of food, so it is a possibility with your cat. Try switching to a novel protein (something the cat has never been exposed to) and a different grain source (again, something new)
When choosing a new food to rule out allergies, avoid ALL ingredients present in the current food.

Other things to watch:

plastic bowls harbor bacteria and generally make a kitty's face break out or become itchy.

kitty litter with perfumed scents are often the culprit as kitty's face is close to the litter during smelling.

Good Luck, I hope kitty is feeling better soon.

Call your vet Monday & see what s/he thinks may be going on. S/he may want to see your cat sooner than next weekend.
Ask your vet about some sort of antihistamine you can give your cat, too.

well you all wase want to be safe with pets but it might just be scatching like all cats do

if u let her out side other people may feed her if she begs at doors so she may be eating food she has allergys to
