What type of dogs are good pets for people with allergies?

yorkies are great for people with allergies. i have horrible allergies to dogs but my aunt just got a yorkie and im fine around it! its awesome! also some other breeds are:
maltese
poodle
shih tzu
westie
silky terrier
bichon frise
and any breed mixed with these.
ps. all these breeds are SUPER CUTE!!!

Every persons allergies are different - and nothing would be worse, in my mind, then getting a dog, then realizing you are allergic to it!

Yes, there are lists of "hypoallergenic" dogs - start researching those, then find someone in your area who has one - and go visit! That is the only way to tell if you are allergic or not.

And a note about "doodles" - they are not "hypoallergenic", since you cannot tell from the puppy what the adult coat will be like - so be careful with *any* mixed breeds.

There are breeds that generally shed very little, and these breeds are ideal for allergy sufferers.

I agree that dogs that generally don't shed should be good for people with allergies but greyhounds are usually good for people with allergies too. The reason is because they don't have the dander that people are usually allergic to like most dogs have. They also shed very little.

well a mexican hairless is good (but not attractive to some people) or i think a poodle would be good because it doesnt shed its fur hope this has helped a little!

in general, i think most dogs that don't shed are good for people with allergies...schnauzers, maltese, poodles, etc.
