Do soy candles affect people that have a soy food allergy? |
My boyfriend is allergic to soy, dairy, wheat, eggs, and nuts. I have several soy candles but I don't want to light them if he might have a reaction. Is it likely that he could have one? I would say. Most definitely. Both inhalation or ingestion of the offending agent can cause acute allergic reactions. Allergic reactions are subjective, some people develop tearing of the eyes and congestion. In the worst cases, people might suffer anaphylactic shock - the neck swells and closes off the throat making it impossible to breathe. It may. It depends on the severity of his allergies. I feel sorry for you that you have to use candles. They belch out lots of soot and it gives people with asthma troubles. We have electricity here and thus we don't have to bring out the kerosene lanterns and candles unless the power goes out. I sell candles that used to be made of soy and veggie wax, and I had a slight reaction to them but shouldn't be to bad as long as it doesn't touch his skin or he swallows it for some reason. Our candles are now made of veggie and beeswax which would probably be better for him. All I can say is try it and the minute he starts showing a reaction, blow it out and get it away from him. You are more than welcome to visit my website and check out the candles if you'd like. While you're there, sign up for the free drawing, you just might win. http://www.amyscandles.scent-team.com... Just avoid doing erotic stuff with the candle and your boyfriend and you should be ok ... dunno really ... hmmm. |
