How can you tell if you are developing a milk or dairy allergy? |
Is there a website that can list some possible health reactions? Most of your question has already been answered above, I just thought I'd add this: Don't confuse a dairy/milk allergy with lactose intolerance. A dairy allergy causes you to break out in hives, etc, and can in severe cases be health-threatening. Lactosse intolerance is just about an inability to digest it, leading to gastronomical problems. i think lots of colds and bloating happened to friend at my church I know when my brother was a baby his cheeks would get red from being allergic to milk. With me I get bad stomach cramps after drinking milk. So, pretty much everyone is different. I would say contact your dr. if you eat some dairy, ( milk, yogurt, whatever) and your breath gets really bad, and or problems in the bowels, thats a sure fire reaction. Itchy throat shortly after drinking it or you develop a rash or hives. sometimes people have respiratory problems and they have wheezing or there throat closes http://allergies.about.com/cs/milk/a/aa0... my son gets the squirts and sometimes complains his throat hurts while eating dairy products. I took him to an allergist. He was allergic to milk and soy (1 yr old) but now can have soy but no dairy products at all (or chocolate) - he's 6 - it's a real pain!! Most often milk allergies produce gastrointestinal symptoms: cramping, stomach upset, diarrhea. These can also be a symptom of a lactose intolerance, or inability to digest the lactose sugar in milk. To see if you have an allergy as opposed to an intolerance, try some Lactaid milk or Lactaid tablets prior to drinking milk products - if it takes care of the symptoms it's an intolerance, not a true allergy. A real milk allergy will be evident whenever anything with milk in it is eaten, not just dairy products (like bakery items, casseroles, etc) and would also include other symptoms of allergy (headache, respiratory symptoms, etc). You can "google" milk allergy and find additional info or sites also. |
