What kind of Dessert can I make for someone with wheat & dairy allergy? |
I'm going to my Dad's for Thanksgiving, and his new wife is allergic to Dairy & Wheat. I want to bring a dessert that she can eat too, because she's been the nicest step-mom I've ever had... and I've had a few. Please help! Actually, the larger supermarkets carry a large selection of non-dairy and milk substitute products. Most recipes are not affected by the use of these products. You seem to be a thoughtful person my friend. Good Q Good luck You could make a traditional fruit pie such as apple using spelt flour or another type of flour for the crust. It's not going to be the same flaky crust and it will have a unique flavor but will still be good. Go to your local health food store like a Whole Foods and they will be able to give you good advice on using wheat substitutes. Make a parfait from non-dairy whipping creme. Everybody will love it. Having both a gluten and dairy allergy makes it a challenge to come up good dessert recipes. Off the top of my head I can suggest you go to your local helath food store and ask where the gluten free cake mixes are, make sure you get one that is dairy free also. Namaste is one brand I know of. They have chocolate cake and vanilla cake mixes, blondies, brownies, cookies. You could make the vanilla cake and then saute some sliced apples in some butter and brown sugar until tender to put on top of the cake. Go to your local health food store (or someplace like Whole Foods or Wild Oats, if you have them). They should have mixes and/ or ideas to really help you. For the record There are ways to sub. other flours for wheat flour and ways to sub other items for milk or butter. If you would like help email me (yes I have Yahoo email) and I can help you sort it all out. 2 kids with food allergies! What about baked apples? |
