If my 9 month old infant has broken out in hives possibly from a food allergy, is there an antihistamine? |
is there an antihistamine for an infant that is safe, and how much would I give her? Head to the ER. No time to waste. NOW! The hives on the outside of her body may only be the outward manifestation of worse damage inside. If she goes into anaphalyctic shock, her throat could close up, and you could lose her. ER. NOW! If you have benedryl, look on the bottle to see what the proper dosage is for her weight, and give it to her on the way. GO NOW! go to the doctor and get prescribed it's safer. if she is under 30 lbs you can give her 1/4 to 1/2 tsp childrens benedryl. just went through this with my 8 month old nephew and called my doc and pharmacist. they said that was the only thing you can do for them at that age. Benadryl. I would use the liquid since it should act quiker, and you might need to go to the emergency room it that does ot help. Call your doctor as well. Benadryl is an antihistamine. But watch your child very closely and at the earliest sign of breathing distress, call 911. Allergies can sometimes be bad enough to constrict the airways and cause swelling. I'm not sure what the deal is in your country, but when my son was about 6 months old he got a spider bite and his arm puffed up really big. I took him to the doctor and the doctor told me that they can't give an antihistamine to a child under two years old. Call the doctor or poison control center. You will want to give her an infants dose of benadryl. 1-800-222-1222 |
