Do acrylic paints normally require a well ventilated room or am I developing an allergy?

Question Details: I like painting with acrylics, but the last couple of times I've tried the fumes have made me cough a lot and made my throat feel weird. I used to paint in my parent's kitchen. I now live in a room which is a lot smaller. Do I need to open a window or switch to another medium (gouache or something)

Acyclic paint is a toxin, and yes you should definitely paint in a well ventilated area preferably outdoors.I am terribly allergic to paint fumes and had to visit the E.R on more then one occasion because of them.I encourage you to seek out safer sources of paints, they make a few for those sensitive to chemicals. Ventilation is a good idea. I don't know if you're allergic or not, but a lot of paints do emit fumes.
ALL paints are chemicals and as such are toxic and should always be used in a well ventilated room. This is even more important for DIY paints as there is so much of it. Artists paints are less in volume but the potency is confined to the area in which you are working.
