My son gets ramdom swollen lumps here & there like he is allergic to somethin wat allergy usually causes this?

He gets swollen lumps about the size of a golf ball sometimes. what type of allergy do you think this could be? They are random and sometimes 1 or two a day and then they fade away. Usually on the back of his legs and on his forearms. He is 13 years old. I took him to the emerg room last month was told to use Benydryll. But that only helps temporarily. We dont have med coverage right now so it gets pretty expensive to go to the hosp every time they occur, please help. Any advise or opinion will help.

you probably should keep a journal of things your son is exposed too - foods, does he mow the grass, is he exposed to any chemicals, pets, etc.

also, you mention that his reactions are usually on the legs and arms, limbs. i'm not sure if that is random if they occur near the same place, extremities.

you might want to see a doctor who specializes in allergies, instead of the emergency room every time.
If they are just lumps, they might not necessarily be due to allergies. If they stick around for two or three days, then pop open, they might be hives. I hate to say this, considering the money factor, but you might need to see a skin specialist, and a GOOD one. Another possibility is to check with the nearest medical school complex, and see if you can bring your son in pro bono. A group consultation might even be done for free. B.
It could be anything... even something he regularly eats.
Trial and error is a method to find out but the most common allergic foods are:
- citrics
- egg
- diary products
- nuts
- fish
Sometimes eliminating this five groups eliminates the problem. If he continues. Then you have to write down everything he eats.
I took two of my kids to an allergy clinic and they gave me a list of foods they shouldn't eat. After that, their symptom improve a lot but my son still got diarrhea once in a while, it was my job to find out what it was. In his case it was mangoes... It could be anything.
The environment also may affect. Do not use biodegradable detergents to was his clothes and his bed sheets, they are more allergenic. It could be the acarus (a very small insect) of the dust: try to keep a tidy environment surrounding his bed, eliminate curtains and vacuum his mattress once a week at least. Observe if the reaction occurs after the contact with any pet.
Anything that has protein can be an allergenic. Do not get desperate, I am the mother of three allergic kids. If feels like you are dealing with a monster, I know.
Work hard on finding out and even if you do not succeed, it is very likely it won't last forever, allergies tend to fade as the kid grows.
You need to make a record of everything you son eats, are is around. And I mean everything.Have you started washing cloths with a different type of soap.Have you gotten a new pet, etc. It could be anything. It doesn't have to be something he has eaten.
