Has anyone ever heard of dogs licking there paws constantly ,showing a sign of a food allergy? Not really, Iv had two cockers that always lick their paws but they have sensitive paws. they growl when there touch. They could have sores or cuts on their paws. Often times animals will constantly lick and area that is hurt to keep it clean, and make it heal. Yes, this is caused by allergies (food, environment) or an injury to the dog's foot. If you are concerned about food allergies, corn is a common allergen to dogs, so try a food that does not have corn to see if corn is the problem. If the dog is still having problems....Some dogs may be allergic to beef, chicken, or fish, so the next step would be to slowly (one by one) find foods that don't contain one of those ingredients so you can narrow down the list and find what she is allergic to. For example, find a food that contains just chicken (not beef or fish mixed in), and if she still has problems, switch to a beef flavored food and see what happens there. I know it is complicated, but it is a process of elimination. I also suggest you go to a vet and have an allergy test done. They can do a simple blood test to find what your dog is allergic to. personal experience-my dogs have allergies too the dog could be allergic to something it steps on, or its food. or could just lick its paws out of boredom. Yes. i have owned several boston terriers and bulldogs over the years and a few of them constantly licked their feet and eventually began chewing on them, sometimes till they bled. It was an allergy. The vet recommended i feed them a special food. The food was expensive. I dont remember it's name but it had venison (deer meat) in it and also pheasant. I also started giving them baby carrots as treats. It did not completely cure the problem but it did relieve alot of it. Yes it is an allergy! |
