Is there any proof that keeping a baby off milk for the first year will prevent an allergy? |
Mom is very allergic to milk products, dad's not. Thats what I heard, just stick to the formula, and don't feed the baby any real food either for at least a year. cb HELLO, I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IT IS SO MUCH THAT KEEPING A BABY OFF OF REGULAR MILK THE FIRST YEAR OF THEIR LIFE IS AS RELEVANT AS THE BABY BEING WITHOUT THE MOTHER'S BREAST MILK DURING THE FIRST CRITICAL YEARS. THERE ARE SOY AND OTHER PRODUCTS OUT THERE NOW THAT ARE AVAILABLE, HOWEVER, BUT STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT THE MOTHER'S BREAST MILK IS THE ONLY THING WITH ENOUGH OF THE ESSENTIAL NUTRITION TO ALLOW THE CHILD'S IMMUNE SYSTEM TO COMPLETELY ARM ITSELF FOR ALL THE FUTURE ATTACKS IT WILL COME UP AGAINST. I WISH THAT MY MOTHER WOULD HAVE BREAST FED . I AM ALLERGIC TO MILK, AND WAS BORN THAT WAY, AND AM ALSO HIGHLY ALLERGIC TO MANY OTHER FOODS SOME LIFE THREATENING. I KNOW THAT ALLERGIES ARE SOMETHING THAT YOU GROW IN AND OUT OF. ALSO, I KNOW THAT YOU CAN TRAIN YOUR BODY TO ACCEPT THE VERY THINGS THAT YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO OVER TIME TO BE ABLE TO ONE DAY EAT THOSE THINGS. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE , AND STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT THE FIRST YEARS ARE CRUTIAL IN THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF A CHILD'S IMMUNE SYSTEM AND CAN ONLY BE ALLOWED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY IN THE FUTURE AFTER BEING INTRODUCED TO THE MOTHER'S BREAST MILK DURING THIS TIME. Baby needs to be on breastmilk or formula for the first year because of the nutrients found in these things. At 12 months baby can be switched to cow's milk. If mom is allergic and exclusively breastfeeding than baby has not yet been introduced to cow's milk. If you plan to move baby to formula I would talk with your pediatrician about soy formula or a hypoallergenic kind such as Alimentum or Nutramigen. Cow's milk is found in MANY jars of baby food, so be careful! I would suggest trying dairy products in the pediatricians office. Therefore, if baby has a reaction you can get immediate medical help. 1 child SEVERELY allergic to cow's milk and also allergic to peanuts. Another child allergic to sweet potatos, pears, apples, banana, tomatos and chocolate. Well breast feeding is still the best way to give any baby their milk, and keeps them from getting sick as much. Now cause one of you are allergic to milk and one is not i do not think it makes a difference. They do not like babys on real milk in the first year, cause it is hard on their diegest system, and can make them sick. Usually they will have you keep them on a formala, or breast feeding. self |
