I'm allergic to dogs and cats. Is there like a vaccine I can take to git red of this allergy?

I really want a small puppy but I'm allergic. Help!

There is no vaccine. I wish there was. I am seriously allergic to cats and yet I have five. My allergist is trying to make it better by giving me allergy shots- which he says works for some people and not for others. Its a shot in the dark. And there are no breeds that are allergen free or less allergen causing than the other. This is a lie. I used to believe that it was true but if you ask any allergist they will tell you that it is a huge lie. There hair is not what makes you allergic- which is what people will tell you- get a hairless dog or a short haired dog. I get so irritated when people tell me this!! You are allergic to their saliva, dander (dead skin), or their urine. Hair has nothing to do with it. If you really want one, you should go and get the shots (immunotherapy) first, before you get your dog. The shots take months to build up sometimes- it is not going to happen overnight. Then be around dogs - a lot- to see how you react. Go even so far as spending the night with someone with dogs for a few days. Because getting a dog- bonding with it- and then realizing you have to give it away because your itching and wheezing is really, really hard, for the dog and you. And, realize that having the dog may mean having to take shots every week at the very least. Medicine may also be involved. Just know what you are getting yourself into before you get the dog. I love my cats deeply, otherwise I would not go through all of this to keep them! Good luck!!! Yes there are treatments available but be advised it takes time. Hang in there, You'll make it thru this !!!!!
have allergies
Sorry, no vaccine for this yet. But see an allergist, have testing done and talk about immunotherapy. It's a possibility. You can't cure or get rid of allergies, you have them for life. Perhaps OTC antihistamines can help in the meantime. And I've heard some breeds are better than others for dog-allergic folks. Run an online search or speak to some breeders in your area.
