Are Bichon Frise dogs a good first time dog for an allergy sufferer?

Are Bichon Frise dogs a good first time dog for an allergy sufferer?

yes I think so. My lil brother had severe allergies, and my parents got a BF, great dog. She is 15 years old now, sadly the pup outlived my brother, but the dog is still a fat, happy doggie livin the good life with my parents

The best dog I owned as far as shedding was a Yorkie. His hair/fur never fell out. Only when I brushed him. There is no dog that doesn't shed, but some that shed significantly less and then some like Yorkies who shed only when brushed. (At least that's what I found in my 17 years of owning him!)

I have never personally owned a Bichon, only had friends who have owned them. They were all great dogs. So I found this for you:

Bichon frise dogs are an excellent option for people with a allergies. As can be seen from the bichon frise picture, these are small dogs. They are very companionable, as they love to be around people. This may be a consideration if you don't have a lot of time to spend with your dog, however.

The bichon frise breed are good family dogs. The only caveat here is that they can be hurt easily, so young children at least need to be of an age where they understand how to handle dogs without hurting them. The bichon frise dog will cope with rough treatment however. And being very sociable, they love to be around other dogs and pets. So if you have a multi-pet household, they will fit in well.

As the bichon frise picture shows, bichon frise dogs are quite fluffy, with thick, white coats and alert, cheerful eyes. They grow from nine to eleven inches tall, and adult bichon weigh from seven to thirteen pounds. Perhaps unsuprisingly, the American Kennel Club classify them as Non-Sporting dogs. Because of their coats they do require regular grooming. It will need to be brushed regularly, as well as cut and shaped once a month. If you are unable to do this yourself, it can become expensive, and should be factored into the decision to buy a bichon or not.

The Bichon Frise breed is very healthy, though small dogs as a general rule have a tendency to dental problems. But there are special oral care biscuits you can buy for dogs and cats these days which help prevent dental problems. There are also kits you can buy to brush your dog's teeth regularly, though if you want to do this it is probably best to start as a puppy so they grow used to the idea.

Bichon frise dogs are well suited to apartments and townhouses, and so are great options for city dwellers where space is limited. But they will still need to be taken for a walk if they don't have access to a backyard where they can run around.

oh my gosh yes! me and my brother both have bad allegeries and he also has asthma. My brother became REALLY allergic to our first dog (a lab) and we sadly had to give him up. Then we adopted a 9 year old bichon and she's just been wonderful!! =] she doesn't give me or my brother any problems (mostly beccause she doesn't shed) and she's so cute, and funny! I'm in love with bichons now, they have such a funny personallity

yes with regular grooming to keep their fur short and the dander down they are happy friendly little dogs. i had one a few yrs ago and i still miss her. she was loveable but a little slow since the breeder got rid of her before she was 5 weeks old and i had to feed her pablum and bath her like her mom would of. its the flakes on the dogs skin that causes most allergies so by keeping her groomed it will help.my son had asthma and he was fine with her.

Yes. They barely shed at all. BUT with any dog if you are allergic to grass dogs run and roll in grass. If you are allergic to dust for example, the dog will always have dust in it's fur. If you are allergic to the fur??! Bichon is a good choice.

i suppose, yeah, but there is a dog specialy breeded for alergy sufferes, called the labradoodle, this is a cross between a labrador and a poodle, my friend has one and its sooo adorable, and you wont get a reaction to it, hope this helped :)

yes, they are great no shedding and well mannered the are sweet dogs who will take a lot of aggressive play from young children ,but they need a lot of grooming and washing so be per paired to find a groomer and and a good brush have fun and good luck, be blessed

Maltese X Bichon are so much better! I have one (Molly) and she is the most adorable thing. Choose that instead!
