Does anyone have allergies to fruit?

Over the last several years I have become more and more allergic to fruits....It started with peaches and I have found that my throat and mouth itch with cherries, kiwi, berries, plums....am I allergic?!

What a sucky thing to be allergic to!! Buzzkill....

may be to the chemicals sprayed on them ,

Yes. For me it started with my favorites: apples and cherries, then spread to pears, plums, peaches, nectarines even grapes and bananas.

They usually diagnose it as an allergy to sulfates, which occur naturally under the skin of tree fruits but which are increased Big Time by the sprays that they use on fruits.

Buying organic won't help, as sulfate sprays are considered to be an organic compound.

Two things: You can do a flash boil of light steam of the fruits first, then eat them OR you can go on a detox diet and exercise plan which (over time) will lessen your reaction.

Do not eat these irritants in large amounts, even if you don't want to give them up completely. I kept eating apples anyway. The allergy worsens with continued exposure. Now instead of itchy or swollen lips I get an itchy swollen throat. This can close off your airway if it becomes a VERY SEVERE allergy. If you at them anyway, don't so it too often.

FYI: Sulfates are also found in most wines, especially champagnes. I get very stuffy and headachey when drinking wines with sulfates.

Allergy pills do help to some extent but only if you take them no more than two hours before eating this stuff.

Good luck, sometimes allergies are seasonal or are caused by air pollution and will eventually go away on their own. :)

Hi,
I am also allergic to many fruits.
Apples, cherries, peaches are my serious allergies(apples are the most horrible for me), and kiwis make me itchy.
You probably are allergic, since all those fruits are in the same fruit family.
It used to be that I could eat apples that were organic, and now it's no apples for me.
When you cook the fruit, can you still eat them?
I can, and I agree with the oral allergy syndrome thing.

This actually sounds like oral allergy syndrome. If you cook it, does it not bother you? Oral allergy syndrome is linked with pollen allergies. I used to be allergic to nearly all raw fruits and vegetables. After being on allergy desensitization shots for five years for my pollen allergies, my allergy to raw fruits and vegetables went away!

Do you buy organic?

A friend of mine has major allergies and had a sudden allergic reaction where her mouth and throat started to swell and was really worried about her throat closing.
Turned out the fruit (a kiwi) may have been exposed to heavy pesticides.

Go to the doctor and get a blood allergy test. They can tell you all the items that your blood reacts to. Fruit allergies can get really nasty really fast.

Sounds like it to me. Eventually you will need to be tested for allergies. The bad news is when you start being allergic to foods, you will probably develop allergies to other foods. Allergies really suck. Sorry.

possibly. i personally am not, but i know 4 people who are DEATHLY allergic to strawberries

Im allergic to this one type of grapes.. it makes my throat all itchy. and my whole face starts to itch. maybe you are allergic?
