Allergies and Dogs...What are some dogs to have if there's an allergy issue in the house |
My dad grew up with dogs and I've always wanted one, the only reason we haven't gotten one was because my mom is allergic to dogs, cats, and other animals. Right now I'm actually starting to convince her to look into the steps we could take of actually getting a dog. I've looked up hypoallergenic dogs and found 15 different types but they just don't seem to be the type of dog that we would want. I'm just wondering what types of dogs shed less then other dogs do. Or if anyone knew what other types of dogs are good for people with allergies please I'll take all of your answers lol THANKS get a dog with really short and slick hair like a dachsund chiahua jack russel. hpe i could help. In general poodles are know to cause less "allergy" issues in humans, though there is no miracle dog. Talk to your local shelter about fostering dogs to give it a try with your mom before committing to an animal and then have to give it away. This way you can see if she will be able to handle a dog in the house :) A mini Schnauzer doesn't have dander which is what your mother is allergic to. It is a smart dog with a good temperament and it doesn't shed. It does, however, require grooming once a month or it gets shaggy looking and the dirt from the back yard collects in your living room. A labradoodle. They don't shed and people with allergies are fine. If you need help finding one go to www.theperfectchoice.synthasite.com go to about us and contact her. She will help you plus go to large dogs and see some pictures of labradoodles. Oh and don't get a short haired dog they shed badly. Mixes of poodles with golden retrievers or labs are really popular now and they have the hypoallergenic features of the poodle with the cuteness of the retriever/lab. They usually have curly blonde hair and are very cute! They are called golden doodles and labradoodles. get a coton de tulear! they are great for people with allergies If your mom is heavily allergic, she should consult with an allergist before considering getting a dog. There are treatments but she should know her options and how sensitive she really is before you start. If she is very sensitive, it may be difficult to have a dog. The breeds you found are the best choices - low dander, low shed breeds. You'll have to compromise somewhat here. And there is a risk she could be allergic to them too. Hypoallergenic does not mean non-allergenic. well, there are different types of hair on each dog breed. some could eb smoothe, wire, rough, etc. i know one of my friends are allergic to dogs, and they have recently got a maltese. There is no dog breed that is truly non-allergenic (not allergy causing) because all dogs produce dander (shed skin cells), saliva, and urine. You can be allergic to the dog dander, dog saliva, or even dog urine. Urine is less of a problem since dogs usually potty outside. Pet hair itself is not an allergen, but it can collect dander, dust, and pollen. The word hypo-allergenic (less allergy causing) is typically used with skin care products that tend to be less irritating to sensitive skin.you would have to keep your house clean, so furniture or other items will not collect dander. if you are up to this, good luck! I wouldn't get a dog unless you know exactly what she is allergic too. There are several different things she could be allergic too. |
