How Can i Be Green When I Have Allergies ?

I cannot take it anymore i recycle like crazy and yet im the one wasting all the tissue paper and kleenex - pills dont work . my allergies can last all day through the night sometimes i cant even sleep so i end up wasting even more paper products what can i do to be less wasteful ?

How about some new ideas on how to be green? Use "green" or non-toxic household cleaners around your home. Not only will this reduce chemicals in the environment, but many people benefit from reduce skin and mucosal tissue irritation. On the topic of cleaning, you could also vacuum using allergen-filtration (Hoover) instead of HEPA. HEPA is a waste of filtration and requires much more energy to clean. Allergen filtration allows filters to last longer, require less power, and do just as good of a job at cleaning up your environment of potential triggers.

You can also buy tissues that contain some percent of recycled paper in them. This reduces your impact.

My final suggestion would be to try a different medication approach. Consider step-down Prednizone therapy. This will reduce inflammation throughout your body, not just try to block histamine. NasoChrom prevents the release of histamine, acting further up the chain than anti-histamines, and can improve the effectiveness of anti-histamine medications. Finally, try a third generation H1 inhibitor like Zyrtec, which is now available over the counter.

In the end, all of these may reduce your use of pulp for tissues.

Reminds me of how the PETA guy's wife uses life saving drugs that were developed by testing on animals. Sometimes you have to compromise your morals and values to live in comfort-- and there's not always a way around it.

If you still want to help the planet, then just spread the green ideas, even if you can't always act on them yourself. If you turn even one other person onto a "green" lifestyle, you've made up for the damage you're causing yourself.

Anyway, Try ZYRTEC. I've tried Claritin, Benedryl, and every other allergy drug, but ZYRTEC is the only one that actually works for me. If you haven't tried that one yet, I personally recommend it.

When you are home use a rag or old t-shirt. Save the tissues for work.
