Allergy to penicillin - was it an anaphylactic shock?

I couldn't breathe, had a rash. Although I didn't have hives, and I did need a shot of epinepherine. They took me off the penicillin and I was fine. Was it an anaphylactic shock, mainly due to the severe difficulty in breathing. If not, is it still a severe reaction?
