I have a severe allergy to shellfish.? |
I have a severe allergy to shellfish and I carry my epi pen everywhere with me. I constantly worry that I am accidently going to eat some shellfish and get a severe allergic reaction. is anaphlaxis rare and do I have to worry so much? will an epi pen give me enough time to save my life? Don't eat shellfish. I don't know how you could possibly, accidentally eat any. You call 911, then use the epi pen. You could just not ever go to a restaurant with shellfish on the menu because the chef could put down that spoon that turned the shrimp onto your plate (he's not supposed to) or something could get splashed on your food. I've even gotten a shrimp or two with my fries at some fast food restaurants. However, my friend has this allergy, we go to places like Joe's Crab Shack, and she has never had a problem. Anaphlaxis is rare. However, you are more at risk. This is a good basic article: http://kidshealth.org/teen/safety/first_... When you eat out always ask what's in the food that you are going to eat/ordering. There are probably millions of people allergic to shellfish.Your best bet would be to shy away from seafood, especially mixed types! |
