USAF - Allergies & getting DQ'd?

I recently just found out, or heard rather, that 3 or more allergies will get you disqualified from joining. This includes Penicillin because if you're allergic to penicillin, they'll automatically put down all the medicines in the 'cillin' family. Is this true; because I'm allergic to penicillin?!

If this is true, WHY!? Penicillin allergies is such a common allergy among people, so I don't understand why this would get you disqualified!

There's always a chance to get a 'waiver' but I don't want a waiver because they're a pain in the *** and can take forever. I know someone currently who has waited four months already, and that's ridiculous because there's already a wait right now for leaving for BMT!

Sorry if that comes off of a rant! LOL

Jennifer K: The reason I ask is because this also came from my recruiter's mouth.

Oy Vey . . .I know several people on AD who are allergic to penicillin.

Dis qualifiers ~are not about you, the individual, they about the good of the Air Force.

Its not about what you want; its about what the Air Force needs.

You will hear over and over and over again, "the needs of the Air Force come first," (ask your husband. . . it gets old fast!) If you can adjust to that, you will have a succesful career.

Any allergy can DQ you, especially if your reaction is extreme (difficulty breathing, etc.). Common allergies are even easier to DQ because the things that come up are items that are often difficult to avoid like dairy, nuts, penicillin and latex. Medics/soliders in combat zones aren't going to haul around special equipment just in case someone is allergic to something.

If you're really serious about getting into the military, waiting the extra 90 days shouldn't be that big of a deal. I've been waiting 6 months just to go to MEPS because they kept changing the rules for entry and waivers.

Allergy to Penicillin DOES NOT DQ you from service and you don't even need to get a waiver for it. Talk to a recruiter instead of people who "heard" stuff.

where theres a will there is a way..... if you want to be picky about the branch you want to be in then wait the 4 months! or go join another branch im sure it will go alot faster.

Go make it happen no one on here is going to help you with you doing what you need to do.

im allergic to penicillin and im in the airforce
