Is it possible to suddenly develope allergies?

I've never had allergies before in my life. (At least I don't think) But this year I'm starting to feel congested and my eyes were red. I also had a sore throat. Is it possible that these were allergic reactions?

You can definitely get allergies at any time in your life. My husband got them at about 40. Sore throat is not usually a sign of allergies though. It's usually congestion, red or watery eyes (or both), sneezing, possibly itching.

It could be, but it also could be "just" a cold. To find out, you'd need to see if there is a pattern to these symptoms (more when exposed to the outside, any relief indoors in different areas, increase in symptoms in certain areas - with specific exposures; certain trees, plants, animals, especially cats etc.)

And yes, true allergies actually devolop (or show) in a matter of seconds and can be life-threatening (such as an anaphylactic shock). What you're describing are mild to moderate allergic reactions and very common. They can be usually 'easily' prevented by controlling the exposure or medicated.

yes. you can develope allergies at any time in your life to so many different things. i know. i was not allergic to anything up untill adulthood. now i am allergic to cats, some dogs, lactose intollerant, molds, and seasonal allergies as well. i have developed all of these allergies within the last 5 years.
i have been to an allergy speciallist and am on 3 allergy medications and at times my allergies still bother me lol. as for the lactose problem....its under control as well

Yes. Allergies can come at any time. And to second the response given before me, sore throat is a common allergy symptom. I get a very sore throat and congestion every spring. I think it might be from the mucus always running down the back of the throat but I'm not sure.
