What can I do to avoid allergies during this horrifying season?

I have horrible allergies! This year I thought I was going to be fine. I discovered My eyes do not hurt a lot this year but I have a very bad stuffy nose. Instead, My sister is the one with the eye problems. I really want to feel better. What are things I can do in addition to taking my medication to lower allergy symptoms? I really need to know how to prevent a stuffy nose and itchy eyes. Thank you.

I have hay-fever and when it gets warm, I can be miserable. As much as I possibly can, I avoid anything that will cause me to suffer. I like to garden and do things outside, but I limit my duration. If I see those little white or yellow things floating in the air, I lose my mind. I also shower a lot in the summer, besides keeping me cool it eliminates any pollen that has collected on my body and my symptoms are less. I take allegra and it works very well for me. If your allergies are pretty severe, you may want to talk to your doctor about getting an allergy shot. I have a friend that loves outdoor activities like camping etc and it's the only way they can continue to enjoy it.

Here are some things you can do that may help:

Avoiding your allergens as much as possible makes sense. Eliminating them is unrealistic.

During High Allergen times, Stay indoors and keep windows closed if possible.

Check the daily pollen and mold counts for your community in the local newspaper, in weather reports, or on the Internet.

Avoid allergen hot spots or don't stay in them too long.

Use air conditioners home/car if you have one, instead of opening a window.

Vacuum and dust your home frequently during warm weather. It will reduce dust in the air.

Shower after spending a lot of time outside. It washes off any pollen in your hair & body.
