My son said to eat honey made in your city for allergies?

My son swears by eating honey that has been made here in our city. In fact he said his allergies have decreased a great deal.

I am wanting to find out the facts behind this and if so, how much do you take each day. I am having alot of allergy problems lately and I get some what wheezy.

Any websites that I can look at to check this theory?
Thank you!

My neighbor told me about using locally harvested honey for allergies. He said he cured his allergies 10 years ago by using it. You have to use honey that is harvested in your area. If you are in a city, I'm not sure if it is possible.
The theory is that the bees use pollen to make honey, so if you eat that honey every day you will build up an immunity to your local allergens. It will only work if your allergies are to pollen. Normally certain pollens are only floating around your area for a short time each year, so you need to eat some of the honey all year long in order to build up your immunity.
My neighbor puts just a teaspoon in his coffee each morning.
I don't know if it true or not. But, try having your son eat some other honey that was not made in your city, without him knowing. If the allergies still stay decreased then its probably just any honey or it's in his mind.
I dont have any websites, but I have heard of the honey trick also. What it does it acts like a flu shot. You pretty much give yourself a big dose of the virus and your body adapts. It has to be locally harvested honey in order to work. That way it is made from the same plants, trees, flowers etc that are effecting you in your area. Honey harvested somewhere else may not work as the pollen contents of that honey will probablly be diffrent than what you are allergic to. Its supposed to be a tablespoon a day.
I have read about this somewhere that consuming local honey can help with allergies, but it is the same thing as getting allergy shots. I was having absolutely horrible allergies this season, so I went to an allergist and was perscribed to take Allegra D and a nasal spray. After a couple days my allergies are completely under control. I'd reccoment seeing an allergist and get it taken care of that way, it's probably quite a bit easier than eating honey.

I have heard this a little different . A lot of people are allergic to honey but not to the honey produced by local bees. I know I am no help but I thought maybe you like to hear what I heard.
Bees pick up and use pollen to make honey. If you have allergy symptoms pollen can be a big cause of them. Much like a vaccine, honey contains a portion of what you body needs to learn to protect its self against. Local honey contains local pollen, so if you allergies are due to local pollen the local honey could potentially help you build up an immunity to that pollen.
