Allergy; what the best time to take claratin? |
Can you only take claratin once a day? I assume then I'd take it when I first wake up then? This summer my allergies are going crazy in Ohio... ugh. Anything else I could take to help fight the sinus headaches and itching nose/eyes? I'm allergic to dust and molds...... i sorta think grass also. I take loratadine (the generic, cheaper, form of Claritin - but equally effective!) every day. I try to take it just before I go to sleep because during sleep the nasal passages dry out. This means the skin in the nose becomes more porous and so lets through a greater amount of allergens, and so you wake up in already starting to feel allergic. I also use a saline (salt water) solution to help clear the nose and keep it moist. Make sure to vacuum every few days with the windows open, and get plenty of fresh air moving through your home. Keep stuff clean, eat plenty of fruit and veg (I've heard pineapple and kiwi are helpful) and drink plenty of water. Don't go near smoke or dusty things, or animals. Do that and you might find you weren't as allergic to grass as you thought you were. There are many types of drug but you just need to find the right one for you, but the main thing is to manage your environment carefully. I took claritin before, but didn't like it. so my doctor prescribed clarinex it works better and is mild. clarinex clears up all of those symptoms you described without additional medications. I've taken Claritin for years, and it doesn't seem to be as effective as it used to be. It does require that you take it on an empty stomach--- which means 1 hour before OR 2 hours after a meal. So, first thing in the morning is a good time. I recently asked my doctor to give me something more effective and she prescribed Allegra. It works much better, and, like Claritin, does not make me drowsy like other antihistamines do. |
