Is there any connection between sinus and allergies? |
Is there any connection between sinus and allergies? hi there sinuses are anatomic parts of our body. In our head and face, there are several sinuses, which are cavities, lined by respiratory membranes. When these sinuses are inflammed, we call this sinusitis. This is when we sneeze a lot, have nasal discharges, etc. When the sinusitis is caused by an allergic stimulus (more often), we call this allergic rhinitis. If this gets worse, this can lead to viral, or even bacterial infection. Very big connection. Allergies will have an amazing effect on your sinus. Sinus problems can be one of the first signs for allergies in a lot of people. Can lead to headaches and all around bad feelings. Allergies, particularly to airborne irritants such as pollens, often cause inflammation of the sinuses, resulting in headache and runny nose (that "stuffed up" feeling). For more information see the link... http://www.entnet.org/healthinfo/sinus/a... They shouldn't but many people who have persistent sinus infections tend to have more airborne allergies, I think. Consider that all a sinus is, is an open area within a bone. There are several within the bones of the skull, so the skull is lighter and we can keep it up right. An allergy is a reaction involving histamine by the body to an outside stimuli, or sometimes an internal one (arthritis). Yes. Allergies cause sinus congestion and pain VERY frequently. It is one of the first things affected by allergies along with watery and itchy eyes. Hope this helps!! |
