Can a dog take allergy pills? |
Can a dog take allergy pills? Yes. When living in Ca. I had a coworker who had a Westie and she had a terrible skin allergie as many Westie's do. The vet told her to give her dog chlorphenlraine maleate-I buy it at Walmart in a bottle of 100 as Chlortabs I think for less than $3 a bottle. I give one a day to my bichon/maltese mix for her itchy eyes. I was prescribed this med when I was 11 and had horrible allergies and asthma. Now I take it when my eyes start itching and it works better than the expensive prescriptions. That's 50 years of experience with this med. I mentioned it to our new vet when we moved to TN and she said it may not help but it certainly won't hurt so why not try. I would ask your vet about what amount to give. The westie was really in bad shape with her allergies so she had to take two a day or 2 1/2, I think. My Daisy takes one a day, just to calm her itchy, pink eyes. Good luck to you and your doggy. Source(s): Two vets, friend, personal use and dogs use. Your vet can prescribe allergy medication for your dog...if he/she determines that's the problem. Do not attempt to give your dog your allergy medication. Yes, both by prescription from your vet or baby benadryl. If they pills that are meant for you and the dog got into them i would call your vet. Yes my dog takes allergy pills for certain foods, and another dog I know takes skin allergy pills......so the answer is yes. Yes, your vet can prescribe allergy medications for dogs. I've met a few dogs that were on Benadryl - I wouldn't try any other med w/o vet's permission, though. |
