I took a allergy shot for dogs?


How long after I take the shot should i try getting a dog?

Is this a series of allergy shots or a cortisone shot?

If it's the series, then you need to build up an immunity and that could take several months or even years.

If it's a cortisone shot, then it should take full effect in about a week.

I went through both. I did the series of allergy shots when I was a child and I get cortisone shots every year at hayfever time.
I take allergy shots for dogs too! you can get a dog like a week after i guess,because maybe it wont work if you get a dog right away.

You may have to take the shots for months or even years before you can tolerate dogs if you are severely allergic to them. If you are mildly allergic, you might be ok sooner. The severity of your reactions can be lessened by keeping the dog/house clean and benadryl or some other anitihistamine type drug. Good luck.
You can't take just one. You have to take them forever. It's a series. They start you out once a week, then once every 2 weeks and eventually they build up to 6 weeks.

On top of that, you may have to take medication besides. You still can have contact dermatitis if the dog licks you and you are allergic to the saliva.

Even if you do all this, there are no guarantees that it's going to work. There are no hypoallergenic dogs. Allergies can develop over time. Ask any shelter or rescue person that has had to take a confused older pet in that the owner couldn't take anymore. Sitting in an ER at 3 am because your kid can't breathe is a real riot too.
