Catscan and Alzheimer's Disease?

Can a catscan tell you if have a Alzheimer's Disease?

The diagnosis is phrased this way because it is impossible to diagnose Alzheimer's disease for sure.

The medical doctor may order a CT scan or an MRI to eliminate strokes and tumors. Alzheimer's can not be diagnosed by using CT scans at the present time. It can only be used to eliminate other causes.

PET scans are being used more for an early diagnosis of Alzheimer's. Since the brain is normally a rapid user of glucose, and since brain pathologies such as Alzheimer's disease greatly decrease brain metabolism of both glucose and oxygen in tandem, standard FDG-PET of the brain, which measures regional glucose use, may be successfully used to differentiate Alzheimer's disease from other dementia processes, and also to make early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.

However, the only sure way to confirm a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is through autopsy.

Hope this helps. Take care my friend.

I have read that having a catscan to see if you have Alzheimer's is getting to be more and more wanted by our population. For the most part, it tells people not to worry, at least, for now. For some families, it is possitive for them to realize they have time to get 'houses' in order...........as the Alzheimer's is on it's way. Knowing ahead of time, regarding any disease, is a blessing.
