Do you know something about Alzheimer's Disease?

I really need help on a research question. Is Alzheimer's treatable? If not, why is Alzheimer's not treatable?

Please help if u know about this, thanks! :-D

Alzheimer's can be treated with medication but not cured. Medication slows the mental decline and may show great improvement for the person for some time. My grandma has it and once she began taking meds she stopped hallucinating and had a better short-term memory. However she declines slowly but steadily. It's best to treat the disease ASAP before it gets worse.

Alzhiemers is a disease that causes the brain to lose the part of the brain that contians its memory, and since the brain is not replacable, there is no way to regenerate the brain into gaining what it has lost due to Alzhimer's disease.

there is no cure for Alzheimer's, u can only treat the symptoms, i believe. such as prescribing memory inhibitors to help your synapse function better in your hippocampus, things like that. It's a very scary world for somebody with alzheimer's, they don't really know where they have just been or what they were just thinking.. they somewaht lose common sense.

I don't know facts and statistics,
But i know that if you have someone around you with it, you should treat them well, don't patronize, and just surround them with love and care.

In the Uk at present there has been a lot of interest a drug called "Aricept". (I'm not sure of the generic name of the drug)It is a very expensive drug, which has been shown in some cases to improve some symptoms of alzheimers. However it is not suitable for all people, and only a doctor can decide this.
But even this "wonder-drug" is not an absolute cure, it only slows down the progression of the illnness.
Unfortunately Alzheimers is not curable.

I know it causes old people to do some crazy things.

My Dad had it...it is a chronic disease...he started showing symptoms at 60 and made it to 68. Its a very slow degenerative process and is very hard on the family.... if you have a large family it helps. The only "good" thing about it is they are not aware of it in the same sense as a terminal cancer patient would be. There are medications that slow the process but no miracle drug yet. Good luck.

Alzheimers can be treated in the earlier stages to a greater or lesser degree depending on the individual. Its a progressive disease & will ultimately end in death either directly or due to complications.. Much progress has been made but more research is desperately needed. This is called "the long goodbye" because that is exactly what happens..
