How do you keep patience when dealing with a family member with Alzheimer's Disease??

I'm a nurse in long term care and deal with alzeheimers pts. daily. Your community may have an alzeheimers respite center (adult day care for i-2 days a week.) Tha gives you some time to yourself. Otherwise if you can afford it get someone to come in one day a week or so so that you can have time to do something good for yourself. Maybe you have childern nearby who can help.Alzehiemer pt.s get very upset with out a routine. Start a routine schedule like breakfast at 8:00 and such. They also like o eat alot of the same things. Many still like to "read" the morning paper. Follow the kind of routine you have always had. Sometimes there are safety issues and you have to do things like take the knobs off the stove, lock certain cabinets. At radio shack you can buy a magnetic alarm that fits at the top of the door frame incase they like to wander. The most important thing o do however is make sure you take care of yourself. Otherwise it will be harder and harder to take care of them due to burn out.
Its very difficult, especially when they are of bed every 30-40 minutes during the night.
