What is the basic cause of Alzheimer's disease...? |
how can we explain Alz Disease on the basis of the abnormality of the protein amyloid involved?...and the genetic inheritences?..... thanks> The basic cause of Alzheimer's disease has not yet been determined. As of right now, doctors cannot conclusively state that a person has Alzheimer's disease until after they have died - the only way to truly make this diagnosis is by looking at the individual's brain tissue during an autopsy. However, we can look at the drug therapies that seem to benefit patients with Alzheimer's and make educated conclustions about the physical changes that are occuring in the brain to cause their symptoms. The drugs in development right now are those that prevent beta amyloid from building up. The accumulation of this protein seems to form the plaque that literally prevents cells in the brain from communicating with each other. As a result, the person finds it difficult or impossible to function regularly. Source(s): http://www.nobosh.com/article/promising-... http://www.alz.org/ A certain type of plaque builds up on the nerve cell's causing them to disconnect. The cause of Alzheimer's disease has yet to be determined, but there are five (5) theories that warrant further investigation: --Chemical Theories --Genetic Theory --Autoimmune Theory --Slow Virus Theory --Blood Vessel Theory But I think it's more Brain Laziness. Once your over 65 you don't think, worry, plan for the future, kids, school...etc. so your brain goes into sleep mode. Brain= Muscle Don't use it you loose it. This is my Theory ( Call it the Soumbooki Theory) |
