Why is Alzheimer's disease so prevalent in older people? what does age have to do with the disease? It's a degenerative disearse. that means it happens slowly as the brain cells gow older and older. Some reserachers believe that the APOE4 gene type (allele) plays a major role in the development of Alzheimner's and doesn't kick in until an advanced age. However, carriers of the gene may develop a rare and aggressive form of Alzheimer's that occurs in people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. I'm a nurse. Calcium binding proteins deplete in the aging process and also in Alzheimer's disease. Their depletion is known to cause cellular death. Their is a new supplement that has a calcium binding protein from a jellyfish that can protect cells from this kind of death (as demonstrated in animal studies). |
