Can an anxiety disorder...?

...just really be a reaction to years of accumulated stress? and thus could getting stress under control and learning how to handle it in the future cure an anxiety disorder?
i understand its not professional advice, just opinions
i have GAD, agoraphobia and OCD, although ive been obsessive all my life, its never really affected me, only has in recent years become a problem, and i started having panic attacks leading to agoraphobia and a high level of daily anxiety, about four years ago to present
i was in an eight year abusive relationship and jumped right into another relationship that is not abusive but is high stress, we just argue constantly, plus financial stress and custody dispute etc

The chance that you can find a way out of the mess you're in is slim..you need to find a therapist to guide you as you learn new ways to deal with life & the problems that go with it...On a more personal note, I would suggest dumping the relationship as it doesn't seem to be contributing anything positive to your life, & reducing the day-to-day problems you are already facing...

I am sorry to hear that you are having so much stress in your life. This question that you have asked is very difficult to answer given the fact that you are still in a very stressful environment. Yes, you can learn to control your anxiety. There are several techniques such as relaxation but I do not think that there is a "cure". As for your OCD I wonder how you have been coping with this because, OCD also causes one to have anxiety. My suggestion would be for you to seek the help of a therapist just to help you cope with your anxiety and the stressors in your life. They therapist may suggest some techniques. I know that sometimes a trained psychiatrist will often introduce some medication to help the person deal with the ansxiety and OCD to put it under control. This is just my opinion I am not a doctor but I have worked in mental health for a few years.
Good Luck

id say everything you have been through cant help im sure there are people out there for you to chat to and mabe work towards your goals

I think its more genetic than anything

Lowering your stress level (including, eh hem, "taking a break" from your current partner) is very likely to lower your anxiety levels.

Talk to your counselor/therapist about the best way to do this.

You deserve to be happy and stress free, so start today, if you can. :-)
Best wishes, and many blessings!

Yes, I do believe if stress accumulates over the years this can form into an anxiety disorder. When I was a child, I was abused by my stepfather for years. When I would hear his truck pull into the driveway, my heart would start thumping and my hands would shake, which means too much adrenalin was being produced by my body on a daily basis. I think that this excess of adrenalin during a critical time of when my brain was still developing, threw my brain chemicals all out of whack and caused my anxiety disorder. This is just one example of how years of accumulated stress can escalate to something more serious.

I have GAD, depression, adult ADHD, and social anxiety. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for a while now and also did some therapy with a counselor. The therapy really helped me learn to cope with the stress. I also use Yoga as a stress reliever. Medication does help me a lot, but it takes a long time to find the right medication and dosage level that works for you, it is not an easy fix.

I do not know if getting the stress under control and learning how to handle it will be a cure. My psychiatrist told me my brain was screaming for serotonin. She said we can try the meds for a year and then wean off. If I don't have a relapse when coming off, that means my brain chemistry has straightened out and I can stay off the meds and just practice the techniques I've learned to control the stress. But if I have a relapse, I may need meds longer or even perhaps forever.

I'm no doctor, but my advice to you would be to see both a psychiatrist for medication management, and a psychologist for stress coping techniques. You'll feel so much better once everything has been balanced out.
