How do you get over an anxiety disorder....10pts?

I used to have anxiety attacks. Really haven't had any in awhile, but this prevents me from going places, like vacations with a bunch of friends....and not all the time, but when I take my boys for a walk, I wont go to far from the house. I really hate this....but, it makes me feel sick to my stomach, my heart sometimes palpitates, sometimes my throat closes up. I just want to know what to do....if there is anything other than going on medications....I tried it, and absolutely did not like it.

I am the maid of honor in my best friends wedding also, it's not til december...but I get sick to my stomach knowing that I have to stand there in front of all those people. I am seeing somebody that specializes in this, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt

You are right medication isn't the answer only partly.

You need coping strageries to deal with going out and gradual exposure. So it could be relaxation techneques how to deal with panic attacks when out (breathing exercises) holding something when on bus ie book so you can pretend to read etc. CBT or Anxiety management will help you......it is more common than what you think and a support group where you can meet others who have same issues will help...try contacting a mental \health organisation i.e MIND they usually have anxiety management training but having a trained professional to talk you through your underlying causes may help get to the bottom of what triggered it off initialy.

cognitive behavioural therapy.
